REVIEW: Etude House Color Lips-Fit #PK001 Magical Fit Pink

Monday, February 24, 2014

For this year's spring, Etude House released the Color Lips-Fit as their lip product. It's endorsed by the beautiful duo Sulli and Krystal from the popular KPOP group f(x). Etude House Color Lips-Fit comes in 7 colors and 1 top coat for a glossy finish. I got my hands on PK#001 Magical Fit Pink because I was searching for a lighter shade of pink.
The product comes with a hot pink box and on both sides of the box they added a geometric texture with triangles, hexagons, some circles and bows. The outer packaging actually leaves me cold this time, because it doesn't represent spring in my eyes and it's not the usual girly, feminine packaging that Etude House usually portray.
Moving on, Etude House describes this product as their unique magic water lipstick that has an airy texture. I wasn't sure what I could expect because the explanation sounds very vague. Upon seeing their promotional pictures it looked like it would give off a matte texture. So I paired up the word "water" with the matte texture and my prediction of this lip product would be: Matte finish with hydration. (But I was wrong..)
Here's the actual description on the packaging:

"This is a revolutionary liquid type Lipstick that moistly glides onto lips with its vivid color and finishes off with a weightless powdery texture."

Etude House Color Lips-Fit #PK001 Magical Fit Pink comes in a transparent plastic tube with a doe foot applicator that is often seen on lip glosses. The print on the outer packaging makes a comeback, but this time it's all in white. Previously I mentioned that I was disappointed at how the elements didn't go well as a whole, but I would like to take back my words now. The texture radiates an active, playful atmosphere and it represents spring in a contemporary way. The cap of the tube is metallic light grey, leaning towards the pale white color.

All hail doe foot applicators! Or not..?

As you can see, you're first welcomed with a liquid texture but it slowly transforms into a chalky, matte texture that can be seen on the picture below.

❝ REVIEW: Etude House Color Lips-Fit #PK001 Magical Fit Pink

✧ Color
#PK001 Magical Fit Pink is a bold, flirtatious neon pink color in the tube but on the lips it look like milky pink. The first moment I applied it on my lips, I was taken aback at how bright and extremely pigmented it was! My younger brother made fun of me and he said that I looked like a "Ganguro" girl because of the intensity of the color..
✧ Texture
The Color Lips-Fit have a liquid substance in their product so the moment you apply it on your lips, you will get the glossy and shiny look. The surprising detail about this product is that it switches into a powdery, chalky, matte texture within a minute. Will this be a upcoming trend in the future? I wonder.
✧ Formula
What I experienced with this product is that it can be quite drying because of the texture. I'm sad to find out that it settles into creases after applying and it's really unflattering on my lips. I tried to apply lip balm afterward for moisture but it didn't help. In fact, it only made the creases more prominent. And since I have a thing for licking, biting and smacking my lips together, I encountered that the product is not smudge proof. It transfers to glasses and other part of my lips when it rubs off. There was even a time when my lips were left with uneven colors.
✧ Scent
It smells like HEAVEN! Seriously this brings me back to my childhood. As a kid when I was in Malaysia, our fridge would always have those fruit flavoured jelly (Thank you mommy!) and the scent reminds me of the Grape or Apple version. Even my brothers agree with me. :)
✧ Lasting power
It's really just average, if I don't eat or drink it can last for of 3-4 hours.
✧ Packaging
It comes with a small transparent tube that represents the official color. The geometric texture of the outer packaging returns on the bottle in the color white and the scattered geometric elements makes the product look playful and dynamic. The cap is colored with metallic light grey and it gives a nice sheen when you move the tube around.
✧ Price
It costs $9.90 on eBay including free shipping. I purchased the product from f2plus1 (this is my 3rd or 4th time now) and I recommend this seller because the shipment took around 1 and a half week for it to arrive from Korea to The Netherlands. BUT! I saw that iamlove-shop is selling it for $8.98, however the sale ends in 5 days so you got to be quick if you still want to benefit from the price.
✧ Final verdict: 2.5/5
All in all, I'm disappointed in the product because I was really excited when I saw the Color Lips-Fit on Krystal and Sulli from f(x) wearing it. The result looked flawless on their lips and I was hoping to achieve the same outcome as they did. Sadly the product doesn't stand out from other lip products I tried before and I find the color to be on a brighter side than my comfort zone.
The product is drying on my lips even after I exfoliated my lips and applied lip balm for moisture. (-0.5 point) It also transfers on glasses and left my lips with uneven colors and patches, so that's a -1 point. Unflattering creases will surface after a couple of hours and when I battled it with a moisturizing lip balm it did not make any difference. It's a pain in the ass to remove the lip color and requires some effort and time, so I deducted another -1 point. I don't know if applying the top coat would make any difference because I don't own one yet, but according to the outer packaging the top coat would provide the "moist gloss" so maybe it was an essential step after all.
So here's the good thing, what I do like about the product is the idea of having a 2 in 1 texture that Etude House came up with. The pigmentation and color payoff is amazing as well and I'm in love with the fruity flavour that reminds me of my childhood.
PROS

* Not available in all country
Recommend? Yes/No?
I honestly would not recommend this to anyone. I think there are better options out there other than the Etude House Color Lips-Fit #PK001 Magical Fit Pink. But of course, not everyone has the same type of lips as mine, so if yours aren't as dry as mine you can give it a shot. I just hope that it will give you a much more satisfying result!
